Firework Pet Alert

Protecting pets through advance notice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Firework Pet Alert — in one place.

Getting Started

What is Firework Pet Alert?
Firework Pet Alert is a free, community-driven alert system that connects people who are planning firework displays with nearby pet owners, residents and anyone who would benefit from advance notice. When someone registers a display, neighbours in the surrounding area receive a heads-up so they can prepare.
Is Firework Pet Alert free to use?
Yes — completely free, for both display organisers and alert subscribers. There are no hidden charges, premium tiers or paywalls.
Do I need to create an account?
You can register a firework display without creating an account — just provide your email for a one-time verification. If you want to receive ongoing alerts for your area, signing up takes under 60 seconds and lets you manage your preferences from a personal dashboard.

How Alerts Work

How do alerts work?
When someone registers a firework display, we notify subscribers whose postcode falls within the estimated sound radius of the event. Alerts are sent by email and — if you have opted in — by push notification. Typical timing is 72 h (push), optional 48 h follow-up (push and email), 24 h safety-net reminder (push and email), and 2 h final push reminder.
How far in advance will I receive an alert?
It depends on when the organiser registers their display. Most members receive their first scheduled reminder around 72 hours beforehand, followed by later reminders closer to the event. If a display is registered late, you may only receive the nearer reminders. We encourage organisers to register as soon as they know the date.
How far away do alerts reach?
When an organiser registers a display they provide a postcode. We calculate an approximate sound radius and alert subscribers who fall within that area. The organiser’s exact postcode is never shared — only a sound radius alert is sent.
Can I receive alerts for more than one postcode?
Each Free subscription is linked to a single postcode. If you have pets at more than one location (for example, a home and a stable yard) you can register with a separate email for each.

Registering a Display

Why should I register my firework display?
A quick registration lets nearby pet owners and residents prepare in advance — closing windows, settling their pets and avoiding unnecessary stress. It shows you’re considerate, builds goodwill in your community, and takes under 60 seconds.
What information do you need from me?
Just the date, approximate start time, fireworks location and your email (for a one-time verification). You can optionally add extra details like estimated duration or display size.
Will my exact address be visible?
No. Your exact postcode / fireworks location is never shared — only an approximate sound radius alert message is sent. Your email is never disclosed to other users.
Who should register — only professionals?
Anyone. Whether you’re a professional display company, a local rugby club, or a family having fireworks for a birthday — a quick heads-up to your neighbours makes all the difference.
What occasions count as a “firework display”?
Any time fireworks will be set off: Bonfire Night, New Year’s Eve, Diwali, Chinese New Year, Eid, weddings, birthday parties, gender reveals, sports celebrations, corporate events — you name it.

Privacy & Data

How is my data stored?
Sensitive fields (email, postcode) are encrypted at rest in the WordPress database using AES-256. We follow UK GDPR principles: data minimisation, purpose limitation and storage limitation. We never sell your personal identity, and your name and specific address stay private and encrypted.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any alert email, which removes your data from our system. Registered users can also delete their account from the My Account dashboard.
Do you use cookies?
We use a small number of essential cookies for session management and consent preferences. We do not use third-party tracking cookies. Full details are available in our Privacy Policy.

Pets & Preparation

What should I do when I receive an alert?
Every pet is different, but common steps include:
  • Bring pets indoors before the display starts
  • Close curtains and play background music or TV to mask sounds
  • Create a cosy, quiet space with familiar bedding and toys
  • Ensure microchip details are up to date in case a pet escapes
  • Stay calm — pets pick up on their owner’s anxiety
Does the site only help dogs and cats?
No. Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, birds, horses, livestock and reptiles can all be affected by fireworks. Our alerts and resources cover all animals.
Where can I find more pet-preparation advice?
Visit our Resources page for curated links to the RSPCA, Blue Cross, PDSA, Battersea, World Horse Welfare and other trusted organisations.
