About and transparency information updated 18 August 2026

Purpose and independence

A practical heads-up before Fireworks begin

People planning fireworks can share the date, time and location. Nearby subscribers can then receive advance alerts, giving them time to bring animals inside, change plans, prepare a quieter space or support somebody who finds unexpected fireworks difficult.

Firework Pet Alert is independent of government, regulators, the fireworks industry and campaigns seeking a general prohibition. It is not an anti-firework campaign and does not issue permission, approval or certification for displays. Its operational role is an independent notification layer around lawful firework use. Its formal positions and decision-making principles are published separately on the Our Policy page.

Notification Partners, donors and service providers do not receive subscriber lists or control alert matching, research findings or public-policy positions. Participation never implies endorsement by Firework Pet Alert, government, a council, a charity or a regulator.

Data and security

Minimum data, limited access

Firework Pet Alert uses a postcode or map point to match nearby alerts, but exact private display points are not published. Sensitive account and event information is encrypted at rest. Access is restricted to operational and administrative needs.

Firework Pet Alert does not sell personal data. Partners do not receive subscriber lists or precise locations. Security controls, service providers, retention and individual rights are explained in the Privacy Policy.

Who runs the service

Founder-led governance, conflicts and funding

Mick is a founder and current operational lead. Firework Pet Alert is an early-stage, founder-led service. Mick currently controls day-to-day development, the website, alert operation, partnerships, public-policy statements, evidence publication and decisions about personal data. No other individual has an ownership, governance or policy-control role.

Current support
Largely unpaid operational time, technical development and direct project running-cost contributions.
Possible future income
Grants, public donations, public-sector contracts and fees for optional organisational tools.
Public service
Receiving alerts, registering a display and basic public use remain free.
Decision safeguards
Payment does not buy partner approval, ranking, access to resident data, influence over alert decisions or control of evidence and policy.

Mick confirms that neither he nor Firework Pet Alert owns or operates, is employed by, receives commission or payment from, or holds a financial interest in a firework manufacturer, importer, retailer or display operator, or in a campaign seeking a general prohibition on fireworks. Firework Pet Alert currently receives no fireworks-industry or prohibition-campaign funding.

Any future funding, ownership, employment, paid advisory work or commercial relationship that could reasonably be perceived to influence the service will be disclosed here. Questions or corrections can be sent to [email protected].

Firework Pet Alert intends to establish a panel including animal-welfare, community, accessibility and responsible-organiser perspectives. That panel has not yet been established and currently has no decision-making authority.

Published partner rules

Notification Partner eligibility

Partner qualification is free. Donations, payments and optional tools are handled separately and do not affect approval, prominence or removal decisions.

1

Relevant and lawful

Applicants must be a genuine business, organiser, venue, public body or community organisation whose involvement is relevant to safe, lawful and considerate firework notice.

2

Accurate and respectful

Partners must support early, accurate display information; respect privacy; and avoid misleading safety, certification, approval or endorsement claims.

3

Independent review

Firework Pet Alert reviews fit, public benefit and risk. Listings may be refused or removed for misuse, unsafe or unlawful conduct, misleading claims, privacy failures or conduct that undermines trust.

No pay-to-qualify or pay-to-rank

Approved organisations are listed on an equal, non-ranked basis. Financial support does not change eligibility decisions or give access to subscriber data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Firework Pet Alert — in one place.

Getting Started

What is Firework Pet Alert?
Firework Pet Alert is a free community service built around one simple idea: if fireworks are planned, let nearby people know so they have time to prepare. Organisers share a display, and subscribers in the surrounding area receive a heads-up.
Is Firework Pet Alert free to use?
Yes. Receiving alerts, registering a display and basic public use remain free.
How Firework Pet Alert is funded
Firework Pet Alert is currently largely supported by unpaid operational time, technical development and direct project running cost contributions. To become sustainable, it may seek grants, public donations, public-sector contracts and fees for optional organisational tools under our Notification Partner programme.

Receiving alerts, registering a display and basic public use remain free.
Who runs Firework Pet Alert?
Mick is the founder and current operational lead. Firework Pet Alert is presently an early-stage, founder-led service. Mick is responsible for its day-to-day development, website, alert operation, partnerships and public-policy work.

Firework Pet Alert is not a government body, regulator, animal-welfare charity or trade association. Any future change to its legal structure, ownership or decision-making control will be published on the About page.
Do I need to create an account?
You can register a firework display without creating an account — just provide your email for a one-time verification. If you want to receive ongoing alerts for your area, signing up takes under 60 seconds and lets you manage your preferences from a personal dashboard.

How Alerts Work

How do alerts work?
When someone registers a firework display, we use its approximate location to identify nearby subscribers. Email reminders are sent around 72, 24 and 2 hours before the display where possible. Optional push alerts provide a quick link to the dashboard and can help with last-minute displays.
How far in advance will I receive an alert?
It depends on when the organiser registers their display. Most members receive their first scheduled reminder around 72 hours beforehand, followed by later reminders closer to the event. Your 7-day live dashboard gives you the wider view of known displays nearby, while optional push alerts can help with last-minute updates and quick access back to your alerts. If a display is registered late, you may only receive the nearer reminders. We encourage organisers to register as soon as they know the date.
How far away do alerts reach?
When an organiser registers a display, we calculate a notification area and alert subscribers who fall within it. Private displays are not shown publicly. Organisers of public, community, venue or professional displays can separately choose to publish their selected pin location and event details.
Can I receive alerts for more than one postcode?
Each Free subscription is linked to a single postcode. If you have pets at more than one location (for example, a home and a stable yard) you can register with a separate email for each. If multi-location alerts would be useful to you, please reach out and let us know.

Sharing a Display

Why should I share my firework display?
Giving a quick heads-up is a simple act of consideration. It lets nearby people bring pets inside, change plans, support vulnerable family members and prepare before the first firework. It takes under 60 seconds.
What information do you need from me?
Just the date, approximate start time, location of the display and your email for a one-time verification. You can optionally add an estimated duration.
Will the display location be visible?
Displays are private by default and use a notification area to alert nearby subscribers. If you identify the display as public, community, venue or professional, you can separately choose to show its selected pin location and event details in Firework Pet Alert’s public display map and directory.
Who should register — only professionals?
Anyone. Whether you’re a professional display company, a local rugby club, or a family having fireworks for a birthday — a quick heads-up to your neighbours makes all the difference.
What occasions count as a “firework display”?
Any time fireworks will be set off: Bonfire Night, New Year’s Eve, Diwali, Chinese New Year, Eid, weddings, birthday parties, gender reveals, sports celebrations, corporate events — you name it.

Privacy & Data

How is my data stored?
We use appropriate safeguards for personal information and follow UK GDPR principles including data minimisation, purpose limitation and storage limitation. We never sell personal data. Private display locations are not published; public display details appear only when the organiser chooses that option.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. An alert-email unsubscribe turns off scheduled firework alert roundups. Registered users can request account deletion from the My Account dashboard, and privacy requests can also be sent by email. Account deletion is reviewed before completion so we can verify the request and meet any legal, security or abuse-prevention retention duties.
Do you use cookies?
We use a small number of essential cookies and browser storage for security, sign-in, notice preferences and features you choose. We avoid using advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies. Full details are available in our Privacy Policy.

Pets & Preparation

What should I do when I receive an alert?
Every pet is different, but common steps include:
  • Bring pets indoors before the display starts
  • Close curtains and play background music or TV to mask sounds
  • Create a cosy, quiet space with familiar bedding and toys
  • Ensure microchip details are up to date in case a pet escapes
  • Stay calm — pets pick up on their owner’s anxiety
Does the site only help dogs and cats?
No. Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, ferrets, birds, horses, livestock and reptiles can all be affected by fireworks. Firework alerts can also help people with noise sensitivity, PTSD, autism or sensory needs prepare in advance. Our alerts and resources are designed to support animals and people who may be affected.
Where can I find more pet-preparation advice?
Visit our Resources page for curated links to the RSPCA, Blue Cross, PDSA, Battersea, World Horse Welfare and other trusted organisations.
